Breakfast in 10: Nutty banana shake

Updated: Feb 24, 2020

Breakfast in 10 is a series of articles where I teach you tasty and nutritious breakfasts that you can make in 10 minutes (no jokes!). This week, we’re looking at the nutty banana shake.

The banana, nut and date milkshake is one of my favourite on-the-go breakfasts and I promise that it will take you only 10 minutes to prepare.

If you’re too busy to spare that time during the morning rush, then just prepare all your ingredients the night before and all you will have to do is pop them in the blender, press “start”, pour into a bottle and enjoy it on your way to work or at your desk.

What you will need  (serve for one person)

Equipment:

A blender

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 Dates (Frozen ones are fine)

  • 1 medium to large sized banana (peeled)

  • 150-250 ml of plant based (soy, almond etc…) or dairy milk - I love using light coconut milk for this smoothie

  • 1 tsp of peanut butter (preferably unsweetened and unsalted)

  • 1 cup of ice (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Soak 1-2 dates* in warm water for 3-5 minutes then drain and remove the pits.

  2. Put the dates, banana, and peanut butter in a blender.

  3. Pour in your choice of milk into the blender. You can use up to 150 ml for a thick milkshake or up 250 ml for a more liquid consistency.

  4. If you want your milkshake chilled, add 1-2 ice cubes.

  5. Blend it all until you get a smooth texture, serve and enjoy!

That was easy, wasn't it? Watch this space if you want more recipes like these, or leave me a comment below and let me know what you would like me to cover next!

Notes:

- Use 2 dates for added sweetness if your banana isn't ripe enough, otherwise one should be fine.

- You can freeze your banana to make your smoothie creamier.
